Itinerary

  • Day 1: MARRAKECH / OUARZAZATE / BOUMALNE DADES

Departure towards the High Atlas Mountains. During the journey, the landscape gradually changes almost imperceptibly, from the vibrant green of the valleys to the ochre red of the Tizi N'Tichka pass, until reaching Ouarzazate, where you will have free time for lunch (not included). Continue along the Kasbah Route to Kelaa M'gouna (Valley of Roses), a town famous for its rosewater distillery. Driving this route is spectacular, offering views of hundreds of kasbahs that the Berbers built to defend themselves against invaders, scattered along the way, as well as villages, forests, and palm groves. Arrival in Boumalne Dades. Dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 2: BOUMALNE DADES / TODRA GORGES / ERFOUD / MERZOUGA

Breakfast. Departure for the Merzouga desert via the Dades Valley, one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of the trip, named after the river that winds its way through the mountains, backed by cliffs of ochre, terracotta, and red. Along the way, you will see beautiful kasbahs, fortified mansions, and mountains crisscrossed by streams and canyons. The Dades Valley has a wild landscape, with snow on one side and a semi-desert on the other in winter. Its wild grandeur and otherworldly silence are rivaled only by the Grand Canyon. The river has carved a valley with spectacular rock formations along a winding road lined with fruit trees, walnut trees, birch trees, almond trees, and wheat fields. Arrival at the Todra Gorge. Free time to explore this area on your own. Stop en route for lunch (not included). As we approach the desert, the road becomes increasingly difficult, and the villages we pass through become more and more authentic, until we enter the territory of the desert's inhabitants, the Amazigh people, better known as Berbers. We arrive in Erfoud, the main town of the pre-Saharan Tafilalet region, with an oasis covering approximately 5,000 hectares and boasting over 300,000 date palms. We visit a fossil extraction center, where you can appreciate the abundance of aquatic life that existed during the Quaternary period in what is now the Sahara Desert. We then continue to the Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi). Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
  • Day 3: MERZOUGA / RISSANI / ALNIF / AGDZ / OUARZAZATE

Breakfast. Departure for Rissani, an attractive small city, both for its surroundings and its history, located in a palm grove 22 km from Erfoud. It boasts several monuments of interest, a bustling market, and an area used as a donkey parking lot where these animals are also bought and sold. It is considered the heir to the mythical Sijilmasa, the first capital of Morocco and the origin of the country's royal family. Continue towards Alnif; along the way, you may see herds of wild dromedaries and an impressive crescent-shaped landscape. Stop en route for lunch (not included). Arrival in Agdz, where a brief stop is made to enjoy the beauty of the Draa palm grove. Continue to Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 4: OUARZAZATE / AIT BEN HADDOU / MARRAKECH

Breakfast. Departure for the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, possibly the most famous in Morocco, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and the location where several Hollywood films, such as Gladiator, have been filmed. Visit to the kasbah. Free time for lunch (not included). Continue to Marrakech, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka pass, a mountain pass located at 2,260 m altitude, seeing villages built of mud and straw, as well as almost perpetual snow. Arrival in Marrakech.
