Pink Lake

Officially known as Lake Retba, the lake's high salinity and rare microbiome long fostered an algae that turned it pinkish, making it one of the West African country's most visited attractions and under consideration for declaring it. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the most curious and strange natural phenomena, and just half an hour (32 kilometers) north of the capital, Dakar. Located between several small villages and in the middle of a baobab forest, it is a very large and shallow lake, with warm waters and a high level of hot salinity.

However, extreme floods have been staining its famous waters green and it will still take time for the lake to recover its characteristic pink color.
