It was built in the late 19th century over the course of a decade, with the intention of being the largest palace ever built (8,000 square meters), combining the palace and a set of gardens. It was built by Si Moussa, Grand Vizier to the Sultan, for his personal use and is named after one of his wives. It has a large number of rooms for his concubines.

Fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 2012.

It is one of the largest mosques in the world. Its construction took 8 years and was during the reign of Hassan II. It has a privileged location by the sea. At the time of its inauguration in 1993, its 200-meter minaret was the highest in the world, its interior space of 20,000 m2 with a prayer hall with capacity for 25,000 people and its total area of 9 hectares, made it the third largest in the world, only behind Mecca and Medina. It has the latest technologies such as earthquake resistance, a roof that opens automatically, heated floors and electric doors. It is the only mosque that can be visited by non-Muslims upon purchase of a ticket.

It is considered the nerve center of the city. In this square are the most impressive examples of Moorish architecture and several very important buildings for the daily life of its inhabitants such as the Palace of Justice, the French Consulate, the National Bank, the regional Government Delegation and the Post Office.

Where is the Museum of Moroccan Arts, the oldest in the city and the one that exhibits the most works.

Its original construction dates back to the founding of Fez el-Jdid (“New Fez”). Most of the current palace dates from the Alawite period (17th to 20th centuries). The extensive grounds are home to multiple private structures, courtyards, and gardens, but historically also included administrative offices and government courts. Its 7 doors are very famous for their striking golden color.
