Day 2: KATHMANDU

In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour from Thamel to Durbar Square, the historic heart of the city. This is a great way to settle into the country and experience its atmosphere. Day 3: KATHMANDU - PATAN - KATHMANDU

Breakfast and departure for a spiritual start to the day with an early morning excursion that includes the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal. Situated on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, the vast Pashupatinath is dedicated to Lord Shiva, making it one of the holiest Hindu shrines in the world. Thousands of pilgrims flock to this temple every year to celebrate Shivaratri, Lord Shiva's birthday. There are many striking features, such as the grand golden temple with three roofs, but so much is happening around it, with the multitude of worshippers and pilgrims, that the hustle and bustle becomes an attraction in itself. Entry to the main temple is restricted to Hindus only. Behold the beautiful Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath, which traces its origins back to King Mana Dev in the 5th century. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the world's major centers of Tibetan Buddhism and is adorned with traditional prayer scrolls and Tibetan prayer flags. Lunch is at a local restaurant in Boudhanath. In the afternoon, we will explore Durbar Square in Patan, a historic city a few kilometers south of Kathmandu. This traditionally Buddhist stronghold, representing approximately one-sixth of Nepal's population, is a true Eastern treasure where Buddhism and Hinduism meet, creating a fascinating architectural landscape in the Newar style. Durbar Square is considered one of the world's finest cityscapes, its centerpiece being the palace of the Malla monarchs, who ruled Nepal for six centuries. Wander through this impressive complex, which features a series of beautiful courtyards with ornate windows and columned arcades, temples, and shrines, all renowned for their exquisite carvings. See the Krishna Temple in the square and the Mahavhar Rudra Varna Buddhist monastery before returning to the hotel in Kathmandu. Dinner and overnight stay.
