Bridge over the River Kwai
This railway bridge was built in 1942 by Allied and Asian prisoners of war forced by the Imperial Japanese Army. Nearly half of the prisoners who worked on the project died from disease, mistreatment and accidents. This story is famous for the novel by Pierre Boulle and was immortalized in the film “The Bridge on the River Kwai”.
Jeath War Museum
This museum houses an exhibition depicting the lifestyle and experiences of World War II prisoners. Inside there is a recreation of the common bamboo houses in which prisoners of war lived during the construction of the Thailand – Burma railway.
