Day 1: CITY OF ORIGIN - COLOMBO

Departure on a scheduled flight to Colombo. Night on board.

Day 2: COLOMBO

Arrival at Colombo International Airport, baggage claim, reception, and transfer to the hotel. Today we include a short panoramic tour of Colombo with an English-speaking driver. The city has the largest population in the country, approximately 600,000 inhabitants, and is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. Located on the island's west coast, it is a vibrant city full of life and with a striking mix of modern architecture, colonial buildings, and some ruins. Due to its large natural harbor and strategic position on the maritime trade routes linking East and West, traders have been aware of its existence for over 2,000 years. However, it wasn't until 1815, when the island was ceded to the British Empire, that Colombo was designated the capital. The city is divided into different areas; the central area is the business, restaurant, and entertainment district. We will visit the most representative places in Colombo: the Fort, the residential neighborhood of Pettah, Cinnamon Gardens, Galle Face Park, and Viharamahadevi Park. Overnight stay.

Geographically and culturally, it is closer to India than to Colombo, which is why the region is inhabited by Tamil immigrants from southern India, giving its creative culture a unique character. Jaffna, with its blend of colonial charm, vibrant Tamil culture, and surrounding islands, offers a number of remote temples, beaches, and various religious and cultural attractions. Departure on an excursion to explore the Jaffna Peninsula. We first head north, visiting Nilavari Pond en route. Arrival in Point Pedro, the northernmost city in the country, with its harbor and long beach. Lunch at a local restaurant. Breakfast and departure by road to Kandy, stopping en route to visit the Dambulla Temple. Its complex of caves, transformed into the Golden Temple, is its main attraction due to its uniqueness and because it is the largest cave system in the country. These are surrounded by fascinating paintings and murals, which extend over an area of 2,100 square kilometers. This entire area of great cultural and religious significance was built by King Walangambahu in the 1st century BC and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1991.
