The Gangaramaya Temple is an architectural and spiritual gem that reflects the country's rich cultural and religious heritage. It is one of Colombo's most important temples, a blend of modern architecture and cultural essence. The temple's architecture showcases an eclectic mix of Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese influences. This Buddhist temple comprises several imposing buildings and is situated near the tranquil waters of Beira Lake, on land that was originally a small hermitage in a marshy area. It features a Vihara (temple), the Cetiya (Pagada), the Bodhitree, the Vihara Mandiraya, the Seema Malaka (monk assembly hall), and the Relic Chamber. In addition, it houses a museum, a library, a residence, a three-story Pirivena (a type of hall), educational rooms, and an alms room. The most striking feature for tourists is the architecture of the Seema Malaka, built with donations from a Muslim patron according to a design by Geoffrey Bawa.
