This palace is located in the upper part of the rocks, a mid-level terrace that includes the Puerta de León and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palace, which goes under the rock, in addition to the moats, walls and gardens. that extend for hundreds of meters from the base of the rock. The site is both a palace and a fortress. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. Sigiriya Lion Rock is the remains of an eruption of hardened magma from an extinct and eroded volcano. It stands out above the surrounding plain and is visible for kilometers in all directions. This rock is a volcanic neck that rises 370 meters above sea level, steep on all sides, and in many places protruding from the base. It has a flat top.
