Near the glacier of the same name, Waiau is a small town on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island, located on the banks of the Waiho River. Founded by gold prospectors and explorers, this small town, whose Maori name is Waiau, is surrounded by rainforest and snow-capped mountains.
