Bursa
Bursa (historically known as Prusa, in Greek: Προύσα, and later as Brusa) is a city in northwestern Turkey. With a population of almost three million, it is the fourth largest city in Turkey, as well as one of the most industrialized and important in the field.
The city is often referred to as "Yeşil Bursa " ("Green Bursa"), referring to the parks and gardens scattered throughout the city, as well as the forests that stretch throughout the region. Near the city rises the Uludağ Mountain, which has a ski resort that is very popular among the inhabitants. Also found in Bursa are the mausoleums of the Ottoman sultans, as well as numerous buildings built during the Ottoman period. The fertile plain that surrounds it, the thermal baths, the archeology museum, among others, and the orderly urban growth are some of the elements that characterize Bursa.
Bursa also offers the visitor some of the dishes most famous Turkish dishes, especially the candied chestnuts and the iskender kebap. Peaches are also famous. Among the districts that depend on Bursa, the historic Nicaea stands out for its history and its buildings. Bursa also has the University of Uludağ and its population has one of the highest educational levels in Turkey.
In 1991, the city was laureate of the Europe Prize, a distinction that has been awarded annually by the Council of Europe since 1955, to those municipalities that have made notable efforts to promote European unity.
In 2014, Unesco chose the name Bursa and Cumalıkızık, the birthplace of the Ottoman Empire, as a World Heritage Site.
