It is a place where it seems that time has stopped. Known as the “Pearl of the Djerid”, Nefta was the ancient Roman Nepte and is characterized by its thermal springs and its splendid oasis. It is famous for its spirituality and the kindness of its people. This is why it has the privilege of being the second pilgrimage site in the country, after Kairouan. It is also an important religious center for Sufism and was the seat of a Christian bishopric until the 7th century. Its architecture is very original, with houses made from small bricks and doors made from palm wood. It served as the setting for films such as The English Patient or Star Wars.
