Fadiouth is an island located 114 kilometers from Dakar, the capital of Senegal. Also called "L'île aux Coquillages" (Shell Island) it is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful tourist places in Senegal. It has a shell cemetery, stilt millet granaries over the sea and a landscaped environment of mangroves. Tolerance in the coexistence between Muslims and Catholics is a characteristic feature of this area of the country that attracts thousands of visitors every year, demonstrating that dialogue between culture and religion is possible, without a doubt it is a great example of coexistence between religions.
Every year the island receives the visit of hundreds of tourists, mainly French and Spanish, who can experience the great cultural heritage of this area, also characterized by its tranquility and its welcoming population.
The population is of the Serer ethnic group, one of the most important ethnic groups in the country. About 5,000 inhabitants live on this small island of approximately 12 hectares.
