Charlevoix
It is a natural, historical and tourist region of Quebec located next to the Saint Lawrence River and the Laurentian Mountains. Its name honors the memory of the Jesuit traveler and historian Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix. It was recognized in 1988 as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The region between La Malbaie and the Bay of Saint-Paul corresponds to the impact site of an asteroid, an event that occurred approximately 342 million years ago, known as the Charlevoix “astrobleme”, making a pun on “astro”. and “problem”. In the center of the region is the Charlevoix crater, which is located halfway between the coast and the Saint Lawrence River.
The most representative tourist places are:
- P'tit Bonheur Art Gallery: It is located in a beautiful house that is located right next to the St. Lawrence River with a stunning view. It has beautiful floral arrangements on the outside and very artistic on the inside. All of their glass vases are arranged by color and they have fabulous collections of art from all over Canada by quite a few artists. This place in itself is a work of art.
- Charlevoix Casino and Manoir Richelieu Hotel: It was inaugurated on June 24, 1994 and established in the former gambling house of the Manoir Richelieu, the historic luxury hotel that is located right next to the casino, on the cliffs of Pointe-au-Pic, a scenic site visited by tourists for more than a century. The current hotel was built between 1828 and 1829 using the chateauesque style to the design of architect John Archibald to replace the original 250-room structure from 1899 that was destroyed in a fire.
