Pokhara

Pokhara is a must-see if you're traveling to Nepal. Its spectacular scenery, adventure activities, and wide range of accommodation and dining options make it a perfect place to visit. Pokhara is said to be a laid-back version of Kathmandu's Thamel neighborhood, set on the shores of a tranquil lake. Its thriving adventure sports industry also makes it a top choice for paragliding and rafting. It also boasts the impressive Annapurna massif as a spectacular backdrop. The most prominent peak is the iconic Machhapuchhare, whose triangular shape casts a long shadow over the city. Machhapuchhare remains Nepal's only unspoiled mountain and is prohibited from climbing.

What to see in Pokhara?

Phewa Lake

Phewa Lake is an immense lake, the second largest in Nepal, and is known for the impressive reflection in its waters of the most imposing mountains on the planet, such as the sacred Mount Machapuchare, Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, offering spectacular views to remember. It is located in the city of Pokhara, which has grown on the shores of the serene lake. In fact, it is said that the word Pokhara derives from the word Pokhari, which means lake in Nepali. The area where Phewa Lake is located is lushly green, full of wild trees with delicious fruits and captivates all who visit it with its calm surroundings. From the lake you can appreciate the spectacle of the sun slowly setting behind the imposing mountains and shining with its last rays on the waters of the lake, while the sky turns pink.

Taal Barahi Temple

Tal Barahi Temple, also known as the "Lake Temple" or "Barahi Temple", is a Hindu temple of the goddess Barahi. It is the most important religious monument in Pokhara, Nepal. This temple is located on a small island in the middle of Phewa Lake. It is the only one of its kind in Nepal, as it is built entirely within a lake with no land passages. In Nepali, Barahi means "boar". Goddess Durga assumed this form to kill harmful demons. It is believed that with her tusks she fought and killed all evil demons.

Bindhyabasini Temple

The Bindhyabasini Temple is the oldest temple in the city of Pokhara, Nepal. This striking temple peacefully overlooks the bustling city. It is of great religious significance to the Hindus living in the region. The temple itself is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga, who is the chosen guardian deity of Pokhara.

International Mountain Museum

The Nepal Mountaineering Museum, established by the Nepal Mountaineering Association in 1973, began construction in 1995 and was officially opened in 2004. This museum features three exhibition halls highlighting the Himalayas, mountaineering achievements, and mountain ranges of the world. In addition, the Mountain People's Gallery offers detailed exhibits on indigenous communities in mountainous regions, focusing on their traditions and customs. Among the museum's attractions are a 9.5-meter replica of Mount Manaslu and a collection of preserved Nepalese leopard specimens.

Schima-Catonopsis Forest

Castanopsis is native to the evergreen and deciduous forests of the Himalayas in Nepal, where it grows up to 1,800 meters above sea level. In cultivation, it is best suited to a temperate and warm climate. Twenty-eight ecosystem classes have been distinguished in the Area, home to 3,430 plant species, 102 mammal species, 474 bird species, 39 reptile species, and 22 amphibian species.

Davis Falls

Devi's Falls, whose literal meaning is Paatal Ko Chango, meaning "Waterfall of the Underworld," is located near Pokhara. The waterfall's water, which originates from Phewa Lake, plunges approximately 30 meters down a rocky gorge and forms an underground tunnel about 150 meters long where it disappears. This connection between the waterfall and the underground cave creates an unusual geological formation.
