The origin of this city is located in a Zoque town called Coyatoc, later in the 16th century, the Dominican friars reorganized it urbanistically and called it San Marcos de Tuxtla. Today, it is the capital and largest city of the state of Chiapas. A city with a modern appearance but that maintains ancestral traditions and that in 2011 was recognized as one of the 10 best cities to live or visit in Mexico. In Tuxtla Gutiérrez there are various department stores, boutiques, shoe stores and technology stores, thus covering the needs of both its inhabitants and those who visit the city. It is the cradle of an important but little-known pre-Hispanic civilization: Los Zoques.
