The vibrant city of Hiroshima has a complex history, excellent cuisine, and very friendly people. Today it is a modern city and the center of the region's industry.Although it is probably most famous for the devastation caused by the nuclear attack at the end of World War II, the city is not a gloomy place or resentful of its past, on the contrary, it promotes peace and understanding between peoples.Hiroshima is home to natural treasures such as the Seto Inland Sea, its crystal-clear waters and forested mountains, which are an extra incentive for those visitors who come to the city attracted by its peaceful nature, shrines and museums. It is also a city famous for its rich gastronomy.Somewhat less well-known than the Peace Memorial Park, these are other places that are also worth a visit:- Hiroshima Castle and Gardens: Commonly called "the carp", it is a beautiful example of a castle built on a plain. Although it has been completely rebuilt, inside there is a museum about the castle and the history of Japanese castles in general. And from its observation deck you can enjoy good views of the city.- Okononimura: This is a building in the city center with several floors dedicated to the preparation of the delicious and typical dish okonomiyaki. It is an egg and flour omelet with endless variations, but it usually always has some protein, vegetables and is always topped with some sauce, such as a popular mix of ketchup and Worcestershire sauce or mayonnaise. There are several restaurants, all of them with grills at the bars.
