Zipaquirá, a land of illustrious gallantry. Known as the "Salt Capital of Colombia," it is a historic municipality located in the department of Cundinamarca, approximately 45-50 kilometers north of Bogotá. It is world-famous for housing the Salt Cathedral, carved entirely inside a salt mine and considered the "First Wonder of Colombia." The city's historic center has been declared a National Heritage Site and is notable for its colonial architecture and the Plaza de los Comuneros. The Zipaquirá Archaeological Museum exhibits pre-Columbian artifacts, and the Gabriel García Márquez House of Nobel Laureate Gabriel García Márquez is a cultural center located in a building where the author studied in the 1940s.
