New Entry and Exit Requirement in the United States:
Effective December 26, 2025, the United States government will implement a new mandatory border control requirement whereby all non-U.S. citizens will be required to provide biometric data upon both entry into and exit from the country. The measure will be applied at all points of entry, including air, land, and sea ports of entry, and is part of the strengthening of national security protocols.
From the date indicated, the mandatory use of facial biometrics and other advanced identity verification technologies is established, without exceptions. Exemptions previously in place, including those applicable to Canadian citizens and certain diplomatic personnel, have been eliminated. The measure will apply to all non-U.S. citizens, regardless of their nationality, purpose of travel (tourism, business, transit, etc.), and length of stay. The biometric data collected, including facial images, will be stored in the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Biometric Identity Management System. In accordance with current regulations, this information may be retained for up to 75 years. The implementation of the new requirement will affect all U.S. international airports, with a particular impact on major international entry points, including: New York (JFK); Los Angeles (LAX); Miami (MIA); Chicago (ORD); and Atlanta (ATL). Although no changes to flight schedules or air connections have been announced, entry and exit controls may require more time, especially during peak hours, which could lead to additional lines at border controls. Recommendations for travelers: - Allow extra time at immigration and exit controls, especially at airports with high volumes of international traffic. - Verify in advance that personal documentation and information provided during the entry process are consistent and up-to-date. - Plan connections with more time to spare and avoid tight layovers at U.S. airports. - Stay informed through official sources such as DHS, CBP, or USCIS, as well as the relevant airline, about possible operational adjustments at border controls.
